Kia ora koutou / Hi everyone
The following are some notes that I took from the breakout group in the February LE. Our breakout group included @Christopher Schoch, @Jeff @miranda @Adele Harrison, @AJeppesen
The topic we were discussing was How to talk about Future Search? What are some key words, phrases, tag lines etc that we can all use when we explain Future Search?
Some brainstorming thoughts from our group:
- A FS is like a giant parts integration with action at its core
- FS combines structural conditions with ecology of relationship dynamics
- FS gets the right people in the right room asking right questions about the right problems and then committing to action
- Having all people connected with the topic keeps things solution focused
- Respond to what people are interested in. Adapt the conversation and cater to the person and their situation. Context is everything! Don’t want to sell FS, it needs to be wanted.
- Leaders need to be willing to empower and share leadership so something can be collectively built that can only be intuited as individuals
- Let’s use the right recipe. You have to have right ingredients for the cake to rise
- FS has something revolutionary in its mix. Make people responsible for shared outcomes. When people have some struggle together, shared experience - this goes beyond rational mind
- When people are personally touched, what is individual becomes global
Notes from general group discussion:
- FS is a strategic planning experience where diverse stakeholders share the ownership of the entire process to discover and enthusiastically commit to a vision they will actively work towards.
- Vision and Action - diverse groups align around something
- if you have the right people they can make decisions and implement them
- people leave a FS knowing what they are going to act on. That holds the momentum and sustains the action
- complexity has many handles. Discussing FS needs to be kept simple language
I encourage all who were at this LE to add their own notes to this thread.
