Co-facilitating a Future Search with indigenous people

Kia ora koutou / Hi everyone
When running Future Searches here in Aotearoa/New Zealand, I am 100% committed to doing so, hand in hand with the indigenous people of the land. I am lucky to be an Associate with https://www.centreforsocialimpact.org.nz/ who fully support this commitment to Future Search and working in partnership with Māori (NZ’s indigenous people).

Practically, this has meant that I co-facilitate each Future Search with people who have not been trained at a Managing a Future Search training course. Rather they learn on the job with me. They bring the strength of tikanga Māori to the FS. This has been an inspiring journey for the last two FS and has reinforced my commitment to this way of running FS in Aotearoa/NZ.

Excitingly - I am currently involved in a FS specifically for a Māori tribe. So this is next level in weaving FS with indigenous practices. Watch this space for a learning update after the FS. It is scheduled to take place 19-21st September 2025.

@winston it would be wonderful to hear from you on your experiences of working with indigenous peoples when undertaking a FS.

Jallala Miranda. Good to hear from you and your plans to undertake a FS with the tikanga Maori in mid-September. I have been working closely with three Aymara and Quechua First Nation elders to publish a book to address the suman qama qamaña notion of Living Well under Bolivia’s Plurinational State and look forward to the opportunity of these elders making contact to identify common ground to engage with the Maori. Saludos, Winston

Jallala Winston. That book sounds fascinating. Hopefully a digital version is accessible as I would love to read it. Yes, let’s keep that idea afloat of indigenous connections. Mihia Miranda
